Yes, definitely there is advantage by initiating deviation due to non
functioning of instruments/equipments. In the example you had
mentioned, replacement only will help to avoid malfunctioning of
instrument further. But we have to investigate, when it is last time
checked and found OK (ex. calibration) and what are the batches
produced by using that instrument from the last time it is found
intact to when it is found out of calibration. Evaluation of the
quality of these batches. These all can be done by raising a
deviation and investigation on the deviation.
