Thanks to all who responded to my query for phenylbutazone tablets. I was
overwhelmed by the variety and scope of the responses and felt very
supported by
a group whose boundaries are pharmaceutical rather than national. I
thought you
might like to hear the outcome.
REASON FOR QUERY: Phenylbutazone (discontinued in New Zealand) required for for
a number of patients with ankylosing spondylitis for whom the side effects were
not significant.
THE OUTCOME: This drug is still available from a number of outlets world-wide,
however Apotex (Canada) who have an outlet in NZ were able to supply
the drug to
me within 7 days, at a reasonable cost and within New Zealand's legal
framework. I'm impressed! Patient was impressed!!!
