HRT uptake varies according to ethnicity

Auth:      David Erskine, Guy's drug  information centre

A survey of 865 post-menopausal women in South London has shown that South Asian women and black women are less likely to be receiving HRT than white women. The percentages recorded as receiving HRT were 10%, 15.3% and 24.8% respectively. The differences between groups were independent of other risk factors, the authors are particularly concerned about the low uptake in Asian women as they are prone to osteoporotic disease in later life. The full results are published in the September 4th edition of the B.M.J.
