Sildenafil Tablets (25mg, 50mg & 100mg)

Sildenafil is an oral medication that works by increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal. It is available as a prescription drug called Viagra. It is also sold as a generic version called Sildenafil Citrate.

What are Sildenafil Tablets?

All versions of Sildenafil Tablets contain the same active ingredient, sildenafil, which relaxes muscles in the blood vessels of the penis, causing them to widen and increase blood flow and allowing those who take it to achieve and maintain an erection.

Sildenafil vs. Viagra

When Pfizer’s patent for Viagra expired in 2013, generic Sildenafil could be released by drug manufacturers at a reduced price.  Sildenafil is just as effective as Viagra.

How does Sildenafil work?

No matter their size or shape, all Sildenafil pills contain the same active ingredient and will produce the same effect. Sildenafil treats erectile dysfunction by relaxing and opening the blood vessels that feed blood to the penis, enabling it to become erect when aroused.

Sildenafil dosage & effects

Sildenafil 50mg is the starting dose for patients new to the drug. This is normally enough to treat most cases, but as with any erectile dysfunction treatment, it may not be effective the first time you try it. It could take several attempts to get your body used to the treatment. You should take Sildenafil at least 8 times to allow it to fully build up an effect and before moving on to another type of medication

100mg is the highest dose, designed for people who have tried the treatment before (or other ED drugs) without achieving the results desired. If a lower dose proves inadequate, try increasing your dosage with Sildenafil 100mg.

On the other hand, 25mg is the lowest possible dose of Sildenafil. This dosage is normally used for patients who suffer from too many side effects on 50mg or 100mg doses. Despite their weaker strength, many patients find that 25mg is enough to treat their symptoms effectively.

Why is Sildenafil cheaper than Viagra?

Generic Sildenafil Citrate is available at a much cheaper price than its branded counterpart, Viagra. However, it still works just as well. Generic Sildenafil has been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and is considered safe and effective. Many different brands are available including Revatio, Levitra, Staxyn, and Vigora.

Take Sildenafil roughly 30 minutes — an hour before having sex. The effects should last around 4 — 5 hours. Fatty foods can prevent Sildenafil from working properly.

Sildenafil directions

Take Sildenafil on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before you plan on having sex — it can take up to an hour to take effect, with effects lasting up to 5 hours.  Never take more than one type of tablet in a 4-hour period.

The medication may not work the first time you use it. If this is the case, don’t give up. Try your prescribed dose of Sildenafil at least 8 times before you switch treatments. If Sildenafil is ineffective, try an alternative like Levitra, Cialis, or Spedra.

Sildenafil ingredients

Each tablet contains sildenafil as the active ingredient at a strength of either 25mg, 50mg, or 100mg.

Each tablet also contains microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate anhydrous, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, poly(vinyl alcohol), titanium dioxide (E171), macrogol 3350 & talc.

It’s important to note that different manufacturers may include different inactive ingredients.

Sildenafil side effects

Mild side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Rash
  • Diarrhea

If you suffer from any of the following, it is not recommended that you take Sildenafil:

  • Heart disease or heart rhythm problems
  • Heart attacks or strokes
  • High or low blood pressure
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Haemophilia
  • Sickle cell anaemia
  • Leukaemia
  • Deformity of the penis
  • Retinitis Pigmentosa
  • Stomach  ulcers

Sildenafil is known to lower blood pressure — this shouldn’t be a concern for most men, but this effect can be potentiated if the drugs are taken in conjunction with a nitrite drug such as Isosorbide or Glyceryl Trinitrate (GTN). If you are taking either of these medications, do not use Sildenafil. It’s also advised to exercise caution if using Sildenafil with alpha-blocking medication too.
